Message from James - Dallas Comic Con

Dallas Comic Con
24-25 Jan 2009

Many thanks to Mark and the Dallas Comic Con staff for putting on another exceptional show. They are are gracious hosts and always manage to bring out some spectacular guests.

It was great to see Tim "Mountain of Charm" Bradstreet and his new sidekick Jim Daly (He's so tempted I want to break his fingers!) as well as Thomas "Hey, Anybody Need a Date" Jame. My good friends Nick and Tina Derington, John Lucas and his gorgeous gal Mindy came up from Austin to shame me with their fearsome talent and make me feel lonely for not having a beauty on my own arm. I also made some new pals, Terry and Amber (who tortured me all day in her black silk dress and fishnet nylons). I have to thank them for rescuing me from the Sunday afternoon hung over strip club venture.

To everyone who came out to see me, in particular that little pile smiles Avery, Wes and Erica (2/3 of the local band Here Holy Spain) who insist I'm a genius when in reality I'm just clever), it was good to see you all again!

Dallis and Calvin, sorry you couldn't make it out. I dressed up just for you. Keep your chin up, things will get better. With hope and faith all things are possible.

These shows are getting more and more like family reunions and less like cons every time. Look forward to seeing you all in April.

Cheers and all that,
James

PS An amended thanks to Matt for keeping me caffeinated and heisting all that Splenda from Starbucks. You are forgiven for bailing on me Saturday night for your hot date, but I do want details!

A message from James - Wizard World Texas 2008

James asked me to forward this along to his fans and friends:

I had a wonderful time at the Dallas Wizard show last weekend, and I'd like to thank everyone who turned out to see me, in particular Avery and Mary who both made the show extra special for me. Please know that I consider you all friends and not fans. You are the reason I do these shows - believe me it's not the glamor! I apologize for my shyness at times but you all flatter me so that I blush to my boots. Also my gratitude to all who suffered through my mumbled panel with such glowing patience and for the intelligent questions asked. I salute you all. My friends and fellow artists Nick Derington and John Lucas (and his beautiful new wife, forgive me I've forgotten your name Mrs. Lucas) kept me entertained and taught me some new tricks - you should all definitely check out their websites, they are exceptional artists both. Thanks also to the Wizard staff, Joe in particular, for treating me with such gracious respect despite my last minute appearance and in spite of the fact I don't do super heroes comics. Brian Azzarello and Eric Bermejo were kind enough to trade gossip while signing their fabulous new graphic novel "Joker" - yes, that Joker, and it's an amazingly dark piece of artwork and writing, and I'd like them both to know their praise is greatly appreciated. It's a sweet thing to be recognized by your peers when they are that talented. John Cassady was way too nice and pretty to be an actual comic book artist, and I suspect he hired a stunt charmer to stand in for him. All in all I think I had one of the best con experiences in years and hope to see you all again same time next year.
Cheers and all that swell stuff,
James
PS,if you're in the area please come out to the Zeus art show this weekend in Dallas(the 15th) and check out some of my new work. I think you'll be surprised how much I've learned in the last 10 years and that I can paint beautiful things as well as tragic.
