The Crow - Special Edition

Don't be confused by the name. This is the previously promised "Author's Edition." The publishing company decided that "Special Edition" would sell better. At this time, we haven't heard if there will be a hardback edition. If you'd really like to see a hardback edition, you can ask about it here. That's where it matters.

James has set aside a few to be signed and sold on the eBay store. I'll let you know when they go up.

In other news, James just told me he's going to be at SacCon on June 5th. Before he attends the convention, he'll be working on a mural in Sacramento with Mark Bode. Before you ask, no... I do not yet know where the mural will be. I'll let you know as soon as I know!

So for those keeping up, that's two definite conventions coming up:

Sacramento Comic Convention - June 5th and Albuquerque Comic Expo - June 24th-26th

James will be at the Albuquerque Comic Expo on June 24th-26th! New Mexicans, rejoice! It can't rain all the time... but it also can't be sunny and dry all the time either, right?

Can you imagine Erik breaking out into song while he breaks necks? Maybe Tim could even get Johnny Depp to play Erik Draven! Wouldn't that just be... ugh. Captain Jack Draven.

 

 

Get your passports ready!

If you're on the other side of the pond, get ready for an ultra-rare European appearance for James! He's been invited to attend the festival gotico y terror de malaga... which is apparently Spanish for something-something-something-Darkside, or something like that. Anyway, James will be in Spain on February 4th - 6th at this event. If you need a passport to get into Spain, I suggest getting started on that as quick as you can!

And one last bit of news for you: It was like pulling teeth, but I finally got James to tell me more about the Author's Edition of The Crow. Actually, this dental procedure happened just over a week ago, but I decided to give the Crow fans over at Facebook a bit of an exclusive head-start. (Curiousity might kill the cat, but it just annoys the Crow's Little Helper... especially when it's in the form of a whine.) So here's what I told the James O'Barr fans on Facebook last week: James came over today to print some reference material. While he was over, I specifically asked about the Author's Edition of The Crow. He said that he recently received the latest (and probably last) proof, and once he approves it the book will go to print. This means that you might be able to buy it as early as summer. No promises... I'm only repeating what was said to me.

So there you have it! If you're not a fan of James on Facebook, I recommend getting over there and joining up!

New Book featuring James O'Barr artwork on the cover!

James just sent me a link to this new book. He was commissioned to paint the cover for it, and it is awesome! I'll post a scan of the full painting without the added text soon, so watch for that! Until then, you can zoom in on the Amazon page for a closer look. (This would be a good Krismas present for the CrowFan on your shopping list!)

The Big News

James has wanted to release The Crow: Author's Edition since 1998. It will contain at least 60 pages of new material that no one has ever seen. Half of that are pages that had to be removed for space reasons. James describes the additions as including more romance flashback scenes between Eric and Shelly, as well as sequences which will make the work more visually interesting

Pocket Books currently owns publication rights to the book, and they have postponed the Author's Edition until their sales of the current graphic novel drop below 25,000 copies per year. They contacted James last month and told him it was time.

James is now going back and editing in all the original pages. Some of them had been given as gifts to friends or sold, so some pages James is having to redraw from scratch. This is also giving him the chance to redraw some other things he was never really satisfied with in the original books.

Don't worry, this isn't the case of some George Lucas ruining the originals!! This is stuff that was really supposed to be in the originals. You're going to love it!

I'll let everybody know when it's getting close to publishing time on here, so be sure to watch this page! The minute I have an exact release date, I'll be letting you know!

Sidenote: James is a bit overwhelmed right now working on this, so it'll be a while before he can accept any new commission work.
